Youth Soccer Referee Development (YSRD)
The Rancho Santa Fe Attack soccer program has operated its own Youth Soccer Referee Development (YSRD) program for several years under the supervision of Kirk Koelling. Kirk has been a referee for many years and he has built the Attack YSRD program into a model for other clubs throughout the San Diego area. His goal is to create and grow a qualified and well-trained group of referees that can be used to referee both Recreational and Competitive games. Kirk holds all his referees to the highest standards with the intent of maintaining a safe and enjoyable playing environment for all ages and skill levels.
If you or your child is interested in becoming a referee, you must take an entry level course for new referees. There are two entry level courses – Grade 8 and Grade 9. The Grade 9 class is designed for those who want to referee small sided games at the Recreational level only. There is no minimum age for this class.
The Grade 8 class allows you to referee all youth games both competitive and recreational and to serve as an assistant referee in comparable games. There is no minimum age requirement to become a referee or prior referee experience needed. For more information on Grade 8 training and all referee levels, click on this link to be directed to CalSouth and their Referee Education program. Both the Grade 9 and the Grade 8 certifications are offered online. In addition to the online training, the Grade 8 requires a 4-hour field training session. You can register to become a referee online at this link.
If you have any questions about the Attack YSRD program, contact the Attack Office. We can put you in touch with Kirk who will be happy to guide you through the process and get you on your way to becoming a soccer referee and earning some money!
